IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM LONDON

The Imperial War Museum in London is one of three Imperial Museums in the United Kingdom, with the other two in Manchester and Cambridgeshire respectively. The museum originated with the Cabinet’s 1917 decision that there should be a national war museum to collect and display material relating to then ongoing Great War (WWI).

After its formal establishment in 1920, the museum had since been extended for WWII exhibits, and later to include all British and Commonwealth military operations from August 1914 onwards. Hence, permanent galleries include coverage on the First and Second World Wars, post-World War conflicts, and much more.

A typical visit last about 2.5 hours, although some spend half a day in the museum or more, with much of the time (about 1.5 hours each) devoted to the WWI, Witness to War, and Holocaust galleries. Twenty-minute Gallery Talks on various themes are available for visitors on the day. Also, the museum is always open except the 3-day Christmas Holidays.
