Shakespeare’s Globle Theatre
Located on the Southbank, the Globe Theatre is a replica of the original theatre that was built in 1576 as the first purpose-built theatre in London, which Shakespeare himself joined and began showing his performances in 1580. Sam Wanamaker, an American actor and director, initiated a plan for the current building, who wanted to dedicate a theatre to all things Shakespeare. Although the designs for the original theatre weren’t ever found, the designers managed to re-create The Globe from drawing inspiration from buildings of the same period.
Ticketed tours of the location are available, which includes an exhibition of William Shakespeare’s life, or you can watch one of the many shows on at the time including some of Shakespeare’s original plays like Romeo and Juliet.
Nearby Attractions include the Tate Modern and Borough Market.
You can access the theatre from different stations including London Bridge, from the North and Jubilee lines or St Paul’s via the Central line.
